KAPIT: The Walikota of Kapit District Council, Philimon Nuing disclosed that Kapit Fest will be held to coincide with three other major events here namely the Entrepreneurs Showcase, Consumers Carnival and Anugerah Carta Siapa Juara to be held from 28 July until 6 August.
Chairing a meeting for the formation of a committee members held at Kapit District Council’s conference room yesterday afternoon, Philimon said that activities for the Kapit Fest will by community-based such as powerboat races, community sports (Iron Man, blowpipe, fishing competition), ‘Ai Tuak’ competition, cultural dance competition like ‘ngajat’, cultural presentation (gendang pampat, kuntau, pantun), Kapit Idol and the highlight of the Kapit Fes is a beauty contest.
At the meeting the council secretary Jabang Juntan briefed the committee on the proposed activities of the Kapit Fest while Deputy Resident, Galong Luang briefed the committee on the Entrepreneurs Showcase, Consumers Carnival and Anugerah Carta Siapa Juara.
Also present were Deputy Walikota, Councillor Lawrence Listin Baling, Assistant Secretary of the council, Kelimbik Sibat, heads of various government departments, Councillors Ilahi Junaidi and Jennu Yu Sii Geok, chairman and representatives SADIA, SDNU, SIDS, KADICLA (Kapit District Iban Community Leaders Association), Kapit Division Powerboat Association (KADPA), Penghulu Undie Bajai and senior staffers of Kapit District Council.
The opening ceremony for the four main events (Kapit Fest, Entrepreneurs Showcase, Consumers Carnival and Anugerah Carta Siapa Juara) is on 29 July at the site of the old airport at Jalan Bukit Goram is expected to be officiated at by Deputy Minister for Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi who is also Member of Parliament for Kapit.
Meanwhile, the closing ceremony has been fixed for 6 August which is expected to be officiated at by Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing who is also Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation.
Among the sub-committees under Kapit Fest are Miring/Pantun (Penghulu Undie), Cultural Presentation (Kuntau/Sape) under Kelab Gagung Sarawak, Ngajat (KADICLA), Ai Tuak Competition (SADIA), Kapit Fest Beauty Contest (SIDS), Kapit Idol (KADICO, Information Department, Cr. Ilahi and Cr Jenny Yu), Powerboat (KADPA), Community Sports (KPS), Fishing Competition (SDNU Youth).
