LUNDU: Four district police headquarters (IPDs) in Sarawak will be upgraded from Category C to Category B to enhance the services and operational efficiency of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
The IPDs are Lundu, Kota Samarahan, Serian, and Sri Aman. The upgrade will also see promotions for the respective district police chiefs.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the state contingent police headquarters (IPK) is actively planning and refining upgrading works for all aging IPDs in Sarawak, focusing on infrastructure and facilities.
This is to ensure that officers and personnel can operate in a more conducive and productive work environment.
“So far, four IPDs will be upgraded from Category C to Category B. This means their respective district police chiefs will also be promoted.
“For Category B IPDs, the district police chief will hold the rank of Superintendent (Supt), whereas for Category C, the rank is Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
“We will also improve facilities in phases, especially for IPDs near border areas. Hopefully, more IPDs will be upgraded in the future,” he said when met by reporters at Lundu IPD today (Mar 18).

Earlier, Mancha witnessed the handing-over ceremony of Lundu district police chief’s duties from outgoing Supt Damataries Lautin to his successor Supt Sudirman Kram.
Yesterday, Damataries was appointed as the new Kota Samarahan district police chief and was promoted from DSP to Supt.
He replaces DSP Jaimi Husin, who will be posted to Serian IPD as the district’s deputy police chief. Mancha witnessed the handing-over ceremony at Kota Samarahan IPD.
On the same day, Mancha oversaw another handing over of duties ceremony at Serian IPD, where outgoing DSP Neil Beginda handed over the Serian district police chief’s duties to his successor Supt Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian.
Neil will be posted to Sri Aman IPD as the district’s deputy police chief.
