KUCHING: Four locals were killed in a horrific five-vehicle accident along Jalan Stutong Baru this afternoon (Jan 14).
The fatal crash also left five others injured — a woman in critical condition, a man severely injured, and three men with minor injuries.
The accident, which occurred around 12.55pm, involved two Proton Sagas, a Toyota Altis and three motorcycles.
Dashcam footage circulating on Facebook shows a Proton Saga allegedly skidding out of control and colliding with four other vehicles in the opposite lane.
The impact left another Proton Saga, Toyota Altis and motorcycles severely damaged, while the skidded Saga spun into the air and landed in a drain.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received an emergency call at 12.59pm and deployed firefighters from Tabuan Jaya and Batu Lintang stations to the scene.
Extrication work was carried out to free a man trapped inside one of the Proton Sagas, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the four locals, three men and a woman, died at the scene. Their remains were handed over to the police for further actions.
Meanwhile, the injured victims were rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.
At the time of writing, authorities had not disclosed the identities or ages of the victims.
