KUCHING: The state government is working on a formula to nurture and improve the participation of Bumiputeras in all economic sectors.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said he had instructed the State Financial Secretary’s Office to use a certain formula for certain jobs to be given to Bumiputeras.
“From there, Bumiputeras can compete among themselves to deliver their projects or services on time,” he said when officiating at the presentation of Sarawak Energy Vendor Awards (Seva) 2020 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Monday (Dec 21).
He said the state government had spent about RM12 billion to implement many infrastructure projects, from roads to bridges as well as supplies of materials including stones, sand and so on.
“Once we have completed these projects, they can open up our rural economy which will become a platform for the rural people to participate in our development agenda including modern agriculture and mobility of services. Besides that, we also have to increase the supply of water to rural areas.
“In short, we have to spend a lot of funds to upgrade our infrastructural facilities in the rural areas to jump-start and maintain our rural economy.
“We also have to digitally connect our rural areas because it is a key of the modern economy. In that respect, the state government has expressed interest in setting up our own digital banking system in order to provide facilities for businesses to progress and prosper,” he added.
