Christiana Figueres, the former United Nations climate chief renowned for her leadership and advocacy in sustainability and climate action, is set to deliver a special address at the 3rd Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (Saref 3.0) on Sept 6.
Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) announced that Figueres, co-host of the podcast “Outrage+Optimism”, played a pivotal role in rallying nearly 200 countries to join the Paris Agreement as signatories. Her innovative approach to collaborative diplomacy earned her widespread recognition.
Figueres will contribute her insights during a special panel session titled “A Shared Energy Future – Partnership and Collaboration”.
Joining her on the panel will be Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, Saref chairman and Sarawak Energy Group CEO; Tan Sri Tengku Taufik, CEO of Petronas; and Dr Nuki Agya Utama, executive director of the Asean Centre for Energy (ACE). The session will be moderated by CNBC’s Sharanjit Leyl.
Apart from her United Nations role, Figueres is known for her fervent advocacy of urgent climate action. She co-authored “The Future We Choose: The Stubborn Optimist’s Guide to the Climate Crisis” (Penguin Random House 2019) and holds positions on the board of ACCIONA Energía.
Additionally, the Saref 3.0 forum, scheduled for Sept 6 and 7, will feature exhibitions and podium pitches spotlighting initiatives and products integral to renewable energy strategies and technologies.
The event’s inaugural day will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, while Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Hazland Abang Hipni is slated to deliver the closing remarks.
