KUCHING: The Sessions Court here sentenced a former logistics company employee to six months in prison for misappropriating company property by selling a smartphone.

Judge Musli Abdul Hamid meted out the sentence after Lai Tze Sen, 49, pleaded guilty to charges under Section 403 of the Penal Code.

He was accused of dishonestly misusing his former company’s Realme smartphone, which he sold at a telecommunication and electronics shop in a shopping centre at Tabuan Jaya, on June 18.

Based on the case facts, the company’s manager discovered that Lai did not hand over the Realme smartphone costing around RM600, and lodged a police report for further action and investigation.

Lai was arrested at the five-foot way of a self-service laundry shop at King Centre, at around 10.00pm on June 26.

Investigations found that he had taken the smartphone for work purposes but failed to return it and subsequently sold it for personal gain.
