KUCHING: A Vietnamese woman was fined RM2,800 in default four months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for engaging in prostitution by offering sex at a beauty centre last June 25.
Accused Vo To Ngan, in her early 40s, pleaded guilty to a charge read out under Section 379B of the Penal Code before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
According to the charge sheet, on June 25 at around 12.50pm at a beauty centre at Lorong Ang Cheng Ho, the accused was prostituting for a customer.
For such offences, the accused can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to one year or a fine or both, if convicted.
According to the facts of the case, a police team conducted an inspection at a beauty centre at Lorong Ang Cheng Ho which was believed to be offering sex services.
During the inspection, the police managed to detain a foreign woman and a man who was an undercover policeman in a room.
Further investigation found that the accused had offered sex services for a fee of RM150 to the customer.
During the mention of the case, the accused admitted that she has been in Malaysia for four years and applied for a reduced sentence as it was not a serious offence, not dangerous or a threat.
Moreover, the accused promised not to repeat the same offence.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was represented by a lawyer.
