MIRI: A 32-year-old foreign man has been detained on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking activities following a successful operation conducted by the Miri District police.
Miri District police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed the arrest, which was carried out by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and the District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters (Miri IPD).
The raid took place on Monday (Jan 13) in the Mosjaya area.
During the operation, authorities seized 5.2g of methamphetamine valued at RM570. The suspect was taken into custody and is currently held at the Miri Central Police Station (CPS).
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, the individual faces a prison sentence ranging from two to five years, in addition to receiving three to nine strokes of the cane.
ACP Alexson urged members of the public to report any suspected drug trafficking activities in their communities to the nearest police station, stressing the importance of collective efforts in tackling this issue.
