KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Samarahan Muaythai Challenge 2025 which ended last Friday (Feb 14) witnessed the dominance of international fighters.
One of the highlights was the Pro 68kg showdown, where Bashir Masrazy from Red Wolves Iran emerged victorious after defeating Asuad Red Fire from Redfire Muaythai Club Kedah.
Monji, representing Kambiz Warrior Sudan, also put on an impressive performance, defeating Arashy Kiat Takoon from Bara Emas Muaythai in the Pro 63kg category.
Thai athlete Waye Ali electrified the ring at Medan Selera Nasi Abe, Kota Samarahan, by defeating Dr Shiba from Redwolves Selangor in the Pro 60kg match.
Meanwhile, Sarawak fighter Aman Koboi, representing Glorious Fight Club, fell short of victory after being defeated by Piji Sempidan from Kenyalang Muaythai Club.
The Pro 58kg category saw Adhem Kiat Takoon from Bara Emas Selangor Muaythai Club triumph over Muhammad Nur Aiman from Kilas Petra Jaya Muaythai Club.
In the Pro 36kg match, Super Rizz from Kenyalang Muaythai Club secured victory by knocking out Aqie Koboilek from Glorious Fight Club.
Additionally, eight Semi-Pro and amateur matches took place, involving a total of 118 participants.
Prizes were presented to the winners by the Sarawak Youth and Sports Department representative Abu Amir along with the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), Khairul Nizam Morshidi.
During an interview, Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim expressed his gratitude to all parties involved, particularly the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Youth and Sports Department, SSC, Sarawak Sports Council (MSNS), Sarawak Youth and Sports Department, Medan Selera Nasi Abe, and everyone who contributed to the success of this event.
Besides being satisfied with the event’s execution, Jumaat was pleased that this year’s challenge attracted numerous international participants, proving that this prestigious competition is gaining recognition among Muaythai enthusiasts since its inception.
Apart from the main matches, the championship also featured several additional activities.
These included Martial Arts Performances by the Sarawak Iban Kuntau Association (SIKAR), Banteng Betawi Silat Art, and performances from the West Borneo Martial Arts team.
On the first day of the challenge, a “Try Muaythai” session and a basic coaching course were held.
Meanwhile, on the final night, Feb 15, the Medan Selera Nasi Abe arena was filled with cheers as spectators watched a special wrestling match between Azwan ‘Serigala’ and ‘The Betis Double K.’
Also present were Samarahan Division Deputy Resident Rais Ahmat, head of the Sports Unit at UiTM Sarawak Mohd Fauzi Zainuddin and Samarahan Muaythai Association president Azmanni Mohamed.
