Fly the Sarawak flag high this July 22

KUCHING: Sarawakians have been urged to fly the Sarawak flag high in conjunction with the upcoming Sarawak Day celebration.

Minister of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Well-being Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said they should do so to remember the day the state achieved self-governance on July 22, 1963.

“As we celebrate Sarawak Day, we encourage all to fly the Sarawak flag on or before July 22 to remember this important date.

“July 22, is an important day, where we commemorate the day when Sarawak got self-governance, which is two months before we formed Malaysia (in 1963),” said Fatimah, who is also the Minister-in-Charge for this year’s Sarawak Day celebration.

She said this after paying a courtesy visit to the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud on Monday (July 18).

On the courtesy call, she said the purpose of it was to send an invitation to Taib and his wife, Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib to attend and officiate at the Sarawak Day 2022 celebration at the Sibu Indoor Stadium on July 22.

“The event will start at 8pm and various programmes will be held on that day,” she said.

“Among the special programmes include musical theater performances including a presentation of a special video that is solely produced for Sarawak Day,” she said.

Also present during the courtesy call were Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications and Deputy Minister-in-Charge for the Sarawak Day 2022 celebration Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; State Protocol, Ceremonies, and Event Management Division head Hamdan Sharbini; and Sibu Resident Wong Hee Sieng.
