SARATOK: Floodwaters at Rumah Ason Tembawai Kapok, Awik have fully receded, but several doors (pintu) remain uninhabitable due to significant structural damage.

This was the update from the Civil Defence Force (APM) Saratok after monitoring the situation at the 21-door longhouse today.

“As of 10.45 am, the floodwaters have completely receded. However, monitoring revealed that the residents’ homes had been affected and several doors suffered collapsed floors and walls, rendering them uninhabitable.

“In addition, the roads leading to the longhouse are now accessible by all types of vehicles. Nonetheless, our team will continue to monitor the situation,” a spokesman for APM Saratok said.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Secretariat said that a total of 85 residents from the said longhouse were evacuated to a temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Rumah Dayak.

The evacuees from 21 families were relocated to the PPS at around 3.30pm, following a flash flood that inundated their longhouse in 1.24m of water on Sunday (Jan 19).
