BINTULU: As relentless downpours continue across Sarawak, flood victims have taken to social media to plead for urgent assistance.
Many have shared distressing images and videos of rising floodwaters submerging homes, roads and vehicles.
Some have made desperate calls for rescue while others are seeking food, clean water and shelter.
In a plea for help, Facebook user Raymond Rayz provided his home address in Bintulu and mentioned that there are three adults, three teenagers, one elderly person, and four animals in need of rescue.
“All of our mobile phones are running low on battery. Please help to contact someone who can save us from our home. The first floor is partially submerged, and we are taking shelter on the second floor,” he wrote.
Another Facebook user, Nurazimah Drahman, posted a devastating image of her house, which is fully submerged on the first floor.
She received the news of the flooding at her residence in Bintulu while on her pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Makkah.
“During my journey to Makkah, I received the heartbreaking news that the house we left behind has been flooded. Our vehicles are submerged, and our pet rabbit may have drowned and been carried away by the water current.
“Though my heart is shaken and I am holding back my tears, I accept that this is God’s will and He wants to remind us that all possessions are not ours to keep,” she said.

Meanwhile, Facebook user Roslan Zainuddin posted a call for help to locate his brother, Zainal Zainuddin.
He stated that Zainal and his family have been uncontactable since last night, with no updates from them this morning (Jan 30).
“Last night, there were people trying to go to the area, but the water current was too strong, so they couldn’t get there. If anyone is conducting rescue and evacuation efforts today, please check RPR BDA Sibiyu Lorong 4B,” he said.
