KUCHING: The flood situation in Sarawak has worsened over the past few days, affecting thousands of residents across Kuching, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri, Marudi, Baram, Limbang, and Lawas.

Continuous heavy rain has led to rising water levels, causing widespread inundation and displacement.

As of Saturday morning, the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee reported that over 120 flood victims from 34 families are currently sheltering at two temporary relief centres in Betong and Bintulu divisions.

The Dewan Rumah Dayak relief centre in Saratok is housing 90 victims from 21 families, while the Rumah Steven relief centre in Tatau is accommodating 33 individuals from 13 families.

The Malaysian Civil Defence Force has been closely monitoring 20 flood-prone areas across the state, with rising water levels reported at 18 locations in Selangau, Matu, and Sebauh districts.

Roads have been cut off, leaving communities isolated and making rescue operations challenging.

In Kuching, the floodwaters have submerged several low-lying areas, causing significant damage to homes and infrastructure.

Local authorities have been working tirelessly to provide aid and support to affected residents, but the situation remains dire.

Sibu, Mukah, and Bintulu have also been severely impacted, with many residents forced to evacuate their homes and seek refuge in temporary shelters.

The continuous rain has made it difficult for rescue teams to reach isolated areas, and efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of all residents.

Miri, Marudi, Baram, Limbang, and Lawas have not been spared from the deluge, with reports of rising water levels and widespread flooding.

The local communities are rallying together to provide support and assistance to those in need, showcasing the resilience and solidarity of the people of Sarawak.

The State Disaster Management Committee has urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

They have also called for volunteers to assist in relief efforts and provide aid to those affected by the floods.
