KUCHING: The number of evacuees at Temporary Relief Centres (PPS) across Sarawak continues to decline, although Mukah has recorded an increase in displaced families, according to the latest report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
As of 4pm today, Sarawak has a total of 31 active PPS, while 53 centres have been closed as floodwaters recede.
“The latest PPS to be opened is Dewan Masyarakat Pakan, while three PPS have ceased operations, namely Dewan SK Abang Kadir Gedong, Dewan SMK Asyakirin Sg Plan in Bintulu, and Balairaya Kampung Pujut Adong in Miri,” it said in the report.
The affected divisions vary in severity. Samarahan has three active PPS, housing 109 families and 294 evacuees, while Serian records one active PPS with 155 families and 507 evacuees.
Bintulu has six operational PPS, accommodating 549 families and 1,889 evacuees, whereas Miri remains one of the most affected areas, with eight active PPS sheltering 316 families and 1,291 evacuees.
Mukah is experiencing a rising trend, with five PPS still operational, hosting 152 families and 452 evacuees. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation in the division as new displacements continue.
Additionally, landslide victims have been placed at PPS Bulan Sabit Miri, PPS Dewan Kampung Sukan Miri, and PPS SMK Tatau, indicating the severity of ongoing weather-related incidents beyond flooding.
