KUCHING: The number of flood and landslide victims at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) across Sarawak has surged to 1,052 as of 8 am today (Mar 22), doubling from 508 recorded at 4 pm yesterday.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement reported the activation of two additional PPSs, namely Dewan Serbaguna Selangau, housing 101 evacuees, while Dewan Sri Baleh has yet to receive any evacuees.
In total, seven PPS are now operational for flood victims. Four of these centres have recorded an increase in the number of evacuees.
Dewan Kompleks Sukan Kanowit is now sheltering 186 victims, Balai Raya Song has 373 victims, Kapit Civic Centre has 159 victims, and Dewan Komuniti Sibu Jaya has 65 victims. Meanwhile, the number of evacuees at Asrama Belia Kapit remains unchanged at 79.
Apart from that, two other PPSs—Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Bahagia Jaya Teku, Sibu, and Dewan Kampung Sukan, Miri—are sheltering 43 and 40 victims, respectively, following landslides.
