Awang Mohd Azizul is a name synonymous with excellence in both bodybuilding and car modifications.
With over 14 years of experience in the fitness industry, he has carved out an impressive career for himself, earning accolades and recognition not just in Malaysia but also internationally.
Awang’s dedication to bodybuilding is evident in his extraordinary achievements.
A CHAMPION BODYBUILDER
In 2015, he clinched the prestigious Mr Sarawak title, cementing his status as a top-tier competitor in the region.
His journey took him to some of the most significant international bodybuilding events, including Mr Olympia in Hong Kong, Mr Asia in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), and Mr Universe in Bangkok.
He has also competed in the Johor Invitational in Johor Bahru and the Mr Little India event.
That same year, he proudly represented Malaysia at the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships, continuing to leave his mark on major competitions.
The 42-year-old entrepreneur was crowned ‘Champion of Champions’ at the Mr Kuching 2022 bodybuilding championship.
“I have competed in bodybuilding tournaments across Southeast Asia, Asia, and around the world. I have been active in bodybuilding for over a decade,” he told the Sarawak Tribune recently.
This year, Awang participated in the 18th Southeast Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championships in Vientiane, Laos.
There, he showcased his remarkable physique and strength, further solidifying his status as a seasoned competitor on the international stage.
While bodybuilding is his main passion, Awang also has a deep love for car modifications.
DUAL PASSION FOR FITNESS AND CARS
He has actively participated in various autoshow events, earning the title of “Best of the Best” in the K-car category three times.
His love for cars and modifying them goes hand in hand with his bodybuilding journey.
In fact, his fascination with cars is as strong as his dedication to fitness, and he’s proud to showcase his interest in both fields.
Awang’s cars are a testament to his craftsmanship and creativity.
He’s no stranger to modifying and personalising his vehicles, having participated in numerous events and competitions.
Notably, he has won several titles, including Best of K-car, Best Clean, and first place in categories such as Perodua JDM/IDM Kelisa and K-car Modified Open.
He credits his success in car modifications to the expertise of his trusted partners, including Lucky Garage for spray work, Ohana Car Coating Specialist for detailing, and ApiQ Garage for engine work.
“My friends introduced this [car modifications] to me, and I have loved it since. This has been going on for a couple of years now,” he said.
Beyond his personal success, Awang is committed to promoting his passions within the community.
He actively encourages others to take part in bodybuilding and car modification, hoping to inspire the younger generation to pursue their dreams in these fields.
He believes in the power of relationships and collaboration, often sharing his experiences with others who share similar interests.
“The car modification community is not just about cars; it’s about people who come together with a common passion. The same goes for bodybuilding. It’s about pushing yourself, but also about helping others achieve their goals,” Awang said.
PUSHING BOUNDARIES IN BODYBUILDING AND CAR MODIFICATIONS
As Awang continues to thrive in both bodybuilding and car modifications, he looks forward to more opportunities to represent Malaysia in international competitions.
With events lined up, including a major autoshow at the state stadium next month, he is excited to connect with more enthusiasts and showcase his talents.
He recently displayed his cars at Autocult 2024 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), where his pink and dark brown Kelisa caught the attention of car enthusiasts.
“The colour pink has a story behind it. If you look at Japan, they have the cherry blossoms that are pink,” Awang said.
However, the process of modifying his car wasn’t without its challenges.
“The challenge is that we buy the parts, and then we have to wait for them to arrive,” he added.
As for the car’s colour, Awang admitted it wasn’t an easy change.
“It was difficult to change the colour. I took three months to do it. Initially, I didn’t like it; it was a bit too loud for my taste,” he said.
The original model of the pink vehicle is a Perodua Kelisa 1.0, which has been modified with a 1.0 Bolt-on Turbo L7 engine, a Den Japan exhaust system, and 17-inch 6JJ Kranze Japan rims.
Awang’s future plans include more car modifications, continuing his bodybuilding career, and further contributing to his community.
He is determined to keep challenging himself and pushing his boundaries, both in the gym and in the garage.
In the end, Awang is more than just a bodybuilder; he’s a true example of dedication, passion, and versatility, proving that with hard work, anything is possible — whether it’s sculpting a winning physique or modifying the perfect car.
