SEREMBAN: Police have identified five men, aged between 30 and 50, for allegedly stopping a police’s mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) which was escorting another car that was sending ballot papers for the Rantau by-election to a vote tallying centre yesterday.
Yesterday was polling day for the Rantau state by-election.
Acting Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said two policemen who were in the MPV vehicle lodged a police report on the incident and police were investigating the case under Section 186 of the Penal Code with obstructing public servants in discharging their public functions.
“In the incident at about 6 pm in front of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chung Hua yesterday, two MPV personnel were escorting another car which was carrying ballot papers to the vote tallying centre at the school.
“The MPV did not enter the school compound, but stopped outside the gate to monitor the situation and security in the area.
“Then came five men accusing our (MPV) personnel to be carrying excess ballot papers. What right do they have to inspect a police MPV as they are civilians,” he told a media conference here today.
He said the two policemen allowed the civilians to inspect the MPV to avoid a fracas.
When the car boot was opened, only a medical aid kit and security equipment were found in there, he added. – Bernama
