KUCHING: Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn Bhd plans to enhance staff benefits, particularly for its female employees, and is seeking the advice of the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development.

The firm conveyed its intention during a courtesy call on Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah for the ministry’s input and guidance.

Among the top management who called on Fatimah today were managing director Yuki Nakamura,  Human Resource, IT and Administrative Department manager Porida Sumin, and Public Affairs and CSR Department senior executive Augustine Lawang Mekai.

Meanwhile, Pertama Ferroalloys — Malaysia’s first large-scale manganese alloys and ferrosilicon plant — has been operating in the Samalaju Industrial Park in Bintulu since 2010.

With a workforce comprising 631 individuals, including 67 females and 564 males, the organisation recognises the importance of cultivating an inclusive and supportive work environment.

By promoting women’s staff benefits, Pertama Ferroalloys said it can empower its female workforce, enhance their wellbeing, and foster a diverse and successful organisation.

“To further support the commitment, Pertama Ferroalloys recently implemented various staff benefits tailored to the unique needs of the employee.

“These include flexible working arrangements, a new maternity staff support scheme, a paternity leave scheme, a newborn baby incentive scheme, and other supportive initiatives.

“In addition, a special facility for the female staff is provided, such as well-equipped changing room with shower facilities and an exclusive female wellness private room,” it said.

The company said that by championing women’s right and wellbeing through equal opportunities, fair compensation, and supportive policies, it aspires to be a role model in Sarawak.
