SIBU: An elderly motorist had to be freed after he was trapped in his vehicle following a crash on Monday night (Jan 17).

The 68-year-old man who was in a Proton Wira suffered injuries in the collision with a lorry along Jalan Sibu-Durin.

He was trapped in his seat after his car ended up crashing into a street pole near Durin Bridge, necessitating firemen to come to his rescue.

Firefighters from Sibu Jaya station who responded to a distress call around 8.15pm used special tools to bring him out to safety before he was brought to Sibu Hospital for treatment.

The lorry driver, meanwhile, was unharmed in the mishap.
