MUKAH: Four locals, including two children, were safely evacuated to their relatives’ homes following a flash flood at Kampung Kuala Lama Resettlement Scheme early this morning (Jan 19).

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said they received a distress call at 7.09am and deployed firefighters from Mukah station to the scene.

“Upon arrival, our team found that four individuals required evacuation as two houses were inundated by floodwaters.

“The firefighters assisted an 83-year-old woman to her children’s house at Orchid Housing and relocated a woman and two children to their relatives’ home at Lavender Housing,” he said.

The operation concluded at 8.37am once the situation was deemed safe.

It was understood that the flash flood occurred following continuous heavy downpour from last night (Jan 18).
