KUCHING: Three shophouses at Jalan Padungan here, were engulfed in flames yesterday (Dec 5).
No injuries or casualties were reported in the 4.55 pm incident.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Padungan and Tabuan Jaya stations were dispatched to the scene, after receiving an emergency call.
Upon arrival, the team found three units of shophouses on fire and the extinguishing deed was performed using water sourced from their water tanker and nearby fire hydrants.
The flames were brought under control at 5.56 pm, followed by an extensive overhaul works to ensure that there was no risk of reignition.
A grocery store suffered extensive damage, with 80 per cent of its three-story structure affected.
Similarly, a motorcycle shop next door sustained heavy damage to its second and third floors.
Meanwhile, a convenience store incurred 40 per cent damage, primarily on its first and third floors.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
