KUCHING: Twelve members of a family were left homeless after a morning inferno destroyed their house in Mile 3 today.
Fortunately, none were injured as they managed to get out to safety during the 8.30am incident.
The family members, comprising eight adults and four children, were staying in the single-storey house at Taman Mega Juta.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department said Batu Lintang firefighters were promptly deployed to the scene, about 4km from the station, after receiving an emergency call.
Upon arriving, the team confirmed that the house was 80 per cent burnt.
Extinguishing works followed suit using offensive and defensive techniques.
The blaze was brought under control around 9.05am and the operation wrapped up around 11.05am.
The cause of the incident and losses incurred are still under investigation.
