MIRI: A fire drill was recently conducted at the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) premises in Miri Permyjaya Tudan, marking the first such exercise held in the northern region.
The exercise, organised under the coordination of Mohd Asraf Abdul Wahab, Administrative Officer of SEDC Kuching, involved 18 employees from Miri, Marudi, Limbang, and Lawas.
The primary objective was to ensure that staff were well-versed in emergency protocols, including evacuation procedures, the role of fire wardens, and the effective use of firefighting equipment.
“The aim of the drill is to enhance staff preparedness and familiarity with emergency procedures, which are crucial for workplace safety,” said Mohd Asraf.
The training was facilitated by PBT II Henry Jugah, head of the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station.
The session included a lecture, a building evacuation exercise, and practical demonstrations of firefighting techniques using extinguishers and hoses.
The Bravo Team, led by PBK II Kebing Ngau, conducted the evacuation parade and demonstrations.
Among those in attendance were Nik Adam, Manager of FAME; Rohani Seri, Assistant Manager of FAME; Nordin Mus, Officer-in-Charge of SEDC Miri; Puan Khartini Johari, Head of Integrity and Risk Management; and Mohd Asraf.
