MIRI: A fire broke out at a workers’ barracks on an oil palm plantation in Sekaloh, Niah, today, destroying six units of the structure.
The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre reported receiving an emergency call about the incident at 1.06 pm.
Firefighters from the Batu Niah Fire Station were promptly dispatched to the scene.
According to officials, only two of the six units were occupied.
The remaining units were vacant, and no casualties were reported.
Upon arrival, the fire brigade assessed the situation and began extinguishing the blaze using a hose connected to the water tank on their machinery.
Once the tank was depleted, firefighters switched to another hose connected to an open water source via a haul-off pump.
The operation, led by Batu Niah Fire Station chief Rary Binjie, successfully brought the fire under control.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
