KUCHING: A bitumen enamel melting machine used in the production of mild steel cement-lined (MSCL) pipes, was destroyed in a pre-dawn fire at a factory along Jalan Bako today.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Tabuan Jaya station were dispatched to the scene, about 15km away, after receiving a distress call at 3.18 am.

Upon arrival, they found the machine — located in an open area within the factory compound — was already 90 per cent engulfed in flames.

Firefighters managed to put out the fire using water from a nearby fire hydrant.

Fortunately, the flames did not spread to the main factory building, and no injuries or casualties were reported.

The team ended the operation 4.33 am. The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
