KUCHING: As long as there is talent and interest, anyone can get involved in performing arts, especially in theatre productions, even if they have no prior experience as an actor or theatre production crew.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Hamzah said his ministry is willing to provide financial assistance for anyone that are interested in staging a play.

“Talent cannot be developed overnight; it requires a rigorous and continuous process. Our actors and actresses cannot be polished by performing in just one show. Refinement takes time and dedication.

“That’s why we encourage participation in the performing arts, whether they are students from private or public institutions or members of non-governmental organisations (NGOs),” he told reporters after attending the premier of ‘Dreamweaver: The Musical’ at Auditorium Old Courthouse here on Wednesday (Dec 11).

With the Sarawak Performing Arts Centre slated for completion by 2027, Abdul Karim envisioned it becoming a hub for numerous performances once operational.

“We do not want that performing arts centre to just be a white elephant. So that is why my dream is to see a lot of concerts, theatre performances being held there every single week once it is operated,” he added.

Also present during the press conference were Deputy Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan and other distinguished guests.
