Fifteen KPA retirees honoured

KUCHING: Fifteen long-service employees from Kuching Point Authority (KPA) who retired last year were honoured with Excellent Service Awards and certificates today (Jan 22) for having completed programmes.

In a press release, KPA said its Appreciation and Certificate Presentation Ceremony for 2024 was held at the Port Operations Building in Pending Terminal here today (Jan 22).

When officiating at the ceremony, KPA’s newly appointed chairman, Azizul Annuar Adenan, noted the importance of human capital development. In 2024, KPA facilitated a total of 241 internal and 157 external training programmes, which included courses, seminars, webinars, talks, and workshops.

Highlighting KPA’s operational achievements, Azizul reported that the port handled 10 million tonnes of cargo in 2024, with a record 305,197 TEUs – a 10 per cent increase compared to 2023.

Azizul who assumed the role of chairman on October 22, 2024, also expressed gratitude to his predecessor, Datuk Awang Bemee Pengiran Awang Ali Basah, who served from 1998 to 2024 and is currently the President of the Senate of the Malaysian Parliament.

The event was attended by several KPA board members, including Datuk Ian James, who represented Datuk Chiew Chee Yau, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, along with Datuk Dr. Haji Wahbi Junaidi, Datuk Ir. Janang Bungsu, Liew Hui Chai, Lim Ah Ted, and KPA general manager, Robert Lau Hong Thiam.
