Field hospital to begin operations Oct 20

SIBU: Military commander, Region Two, Major General Datuk Dzulkafli Mustaffa made a brief working visit to the Malaysian Armed Forces Field Hospital here last Saturday (Oct 9).

He was briefed on the hospital’s operations on the current situation of Covid-19 in Sibu by the hospital’s director, Dr Nanthakumar Thirunavukkarasu.

Accompanying Dzulkafli during the visit were 9th Brigade commander Brigadier General Shamshor Jaafar and 31st Brigade commander Brigadier General Abdul Jalal Zaidi Abdul Majid.

Dzulkafli assured that the armed forces would always provide full support and assistance to the government in ensuring that the Covid-19 pandemic is under control for the safety of the people.

The Armed Forces field hospital will officially start operating on Oct 20.

It is the second hospital of its kind to be established after the military successfully operated a similar hospital in Kapit.

The field hospital here was established in collaboration with the State Health Department, Sibu Resident’s Office, Ministry of Health Malaysia and Sibu Hospital.

The field hospital can provide treatment to patients in addition to Covid-19 cases. It will enable the Sibu Hospital to focus on treating Covid-19 cases in addition to having sufficient bed capacity for patients with more serious cases.

The Armed Forces Field Hospital will officially start operations on Oct 20.
