KUCHING: Some 250 underprivileged Sarawakian families have received essential food packages from Yayasan PETRONAS (YP) under its ‘Sentuhan Kasih Festive’ programme in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.
According to a statement by PETRONAS, 150 families received food items such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, canned sardine, tea, milo, peanuts, noodle, sesame oil, taucu sauce, dry mushrooms and cookies at a ceremony in Kompleks Islam Sarawak on Saturday (Feb 4).
The event was officiated at by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Also present were permanent secretary to the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Noriah Ahmad; director of JKM, Adana Jed; Resident of Kuching Division Fathi Hambali; Kuching division social welfare officer, Norhayati Abdul Rahman; and general manager of PETRONAS Sarawak, Zulaihi Mantali.
Yayasan PETRONAS had recently distributed the food items to 100 families through Jabatan Kebajikan Masyakarat (JPM).
Zulaihi said that Yayasan PETRONAS had distributed care packages to more than 2,000 families throughout Malaysia during the Chinese New Year festive period this year, of which some 250 of the eligible recipients are from Sarawak.
“The objective of our ‘Sentuhan Kasih’ programme is to contribute staple food items or necessities to families who need a little extra support and care, in hopes that we can spread joy and warmth to their homes during this special occasion,” he added.
Each year, Yayasan PETRONAS contributes items to underprivileged communities for their basic needs and well-being in conjunction with major celebrations in Malaysia via its ‘Sentuhan Kasih Festive’ programme.
