SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch, led by its Chairman, Councillor Kevin Lau, brought festive cheer to shop owners and businesses along Market Road today (Jan 26) in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.
The team distributed mandarin oranges and red packets, symbolising blessings and prosperity, as part of their efforts to engage with the local community and share the festive spirit.
“In Chinese traditional customs, spring marks the start of the year and is considered a crucial season, symbolising a positive and energising new beginning.
“Therefore, I hope this positive energy resonates with every individual in the business community,” Lau said in a statement today (Jan 26).
He added that the team has consistently arranged mobile services to engage with the public and understand their concerns.
“Although it rained heavily this morning, I am truly grateful to our team members for braving the rain and carrying boxes of mandarin oranges to bring joy and cheer to our local community,” he said.
He also wished all residents of Bawang Assan a happy and prosperous Year of the Snake.
“I hope the new year brings new beginnings, renewed hope, and continuous growth to overcome any future challenges or obstacles,” he said.
Also present were Penghulu Wong Ung, Kapitan Chew Hoo Kiong, Councillor Yong Ing Hock, Councillor Justin Wong, Councillor Rory Wong, and SUPP Bawang Assan committee members.
