KUCHING: A man, who pleaded guilty to posing as a volunteer doctor at a vaccination centre (PPV) here, will know his fate on August 17.
The Magistrate’s Court today ordered the 20-year-old suspect from Bandar Baru Samariang to be further detained pending his social report.
The suspect’s disguise was blown when a volunteer, who also worked at the Stadium Perpaduan PPV, recognised him.
Both were said to be Form Two students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Demak Baru in 2016.
The suspect was arrested by police at 2pm on July 1.
Based on the facts of the case, the suspect introduced himself as Dr Shah Hairil, a graduate medical officer working in the Neurology unit of the Sarawak General Hospital under the supervision of Dr Lau, to other staff at the PPV.
He then informed them that he visited the centre to look at trauma cases mainly involving adverse events following immunisation (AEFI).
The suspect’s behaviour in front of Dr Lau had convinced the latter he was a genuine doctor. He was then allowed to work as a volunteer at the Stadium Perpaduan PPV from June 16 to July 1.
During the arrest, police confiscated several items such as a brown duffel bag, a blue scrub shirt with the name of the Sarawak General Hospital written on it, a Littman stethoscope, six continuation sheets, an MoH employee name pass, an oximeter unit, a pair of gloves, an iphone XR, a blue scrub shirt with the wordings “Dr Shah Hairul Izman” written on it as well as a pair of dark blue pants.
