KOTA SAMARAHAN: The existing Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) committees are sufficient to address Sarawak’s oil and gas claims, making the proposed Democratic Action Party (DAP) – Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) bipartisan committee unnecessary.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the Technical Committee of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (JKTMTPM63) and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) are already fulfilling this role effectively.

Commenting on DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Sarawak’s proposal to establish the committee, he questioned its necessity, suggesting that it might be politically motivated rather than a genuine effort to champion Sarawak’s rights.

Fadillah speaks to reporters.

“I don’t understand the purpose of this proposal. Is it truly for the cause, or is there a political agenda behind it?

“The current struggle under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is clear. We have been consistent from the beginning. But as for DAP, I am unsure about their sincerity and commitment—whether they are genuine or not.” he said.

He said this when met by reporters during the Sarawak-level Santunan Kasih Ramadan Ceremony of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) 2025 at Masjid Darul Sabirin, Kampung Empila here last night (Mar 21).

He pointed out that under the Madani Government, nine claims related to MA63 have already been resolved, demonstrating that the committees established by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim are functioning effectively.

“There is no need for another committee because they already know what needs to be done,” he said.

Instead of forming a separate committee, he urged DAP to demonstrate its support in Parliament by advocating more strongly for Sarawak’s interests.

“If DAP wants to help, they should raise a stronger voice in Parliament,” he added.

Meanwhile, during the event the KKDW featured the symbolic handover of aid and contributions to 159 recipients, with total contributions amounting to RM27,710,693.90.
