KUCHING: Batik Air, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and AirAsia have agreed to increase their flight frequencies between Kuala Lumpur and major cities and towns in Sarawak, including Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Bintulu, from this coming March 26 to April 6.
In stating this, Minister for Transport, Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin, said that his ministry had engaged with the airlines to provide additional flights during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.
He said the initiative aims to accommodate the surge in travel demand and facilitate Sarawakians returning home to celebrate with their families.
“Batik Air will introduce three additional daily flights on the Kuala Lumpur-Kuching route and two extra daily flights on the Kuala Lumpur-Sibu route from March 26 to 31.
“Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines will add one additional flight daily on March 28 and 29 for routes connecting Kuala Lumpur to Kuching, Miri, Sibu, and Bintulu.
“The airline will also operate extra flights on April 4 and 5 for the Kuala Lumpur-Kuching route, as well as on April 5 and 6 for flights between Kuala Lumpur and Miri, Sibu, and Bintulu,” he said in a statement today.
He also mentioned that AirAsia expanded its services, adding one extra daily flight on the Kuala Lumpur-Kuching route from March 29 to April 4, and on the Kuala Lumpur-Sibu route from March 30 to April 4.
“Additionally, Kuala Lumpur-Miri flights will see an extra daily flight from March 28 to April 4, while the Kuala Lumpur-Bintulu route will receive an additional flight from March 30 to April 2.
“AirAsia will also operate one extra flight on the Johor-Sibu route on April 4, and from March 31 to April 4, it will introduce one additional flight daily on the Johor-Kuching route,” he said.
He emphasised that these extra flights would help alleviate travel congestion, ensuring that Sarawakians can return home more conveniently during the festive season.
He expressed his gratitude to the airlines for their cooperation and urged travellers to book their tickets early to secure their travel plans.
“The Ministry of Transport will continue to collaborate with major airlines to ensure sufficient flight capacity to meet public demand,” he said.
