KUCHING: “We have seen and witnessed the first consignment of 350 live pigs to be exported to Singapore by Green Breeder Sdn. Bhd, an Anchor Farmer from the Pig Farming Area (PFA) at Pasir Puteh, Simunjan.
Prior to this, Green Breeder has been exporting 90 metric tonnes of frozen pork since February 2015 on a monthly basis marketed under a premium brand ‘Borneo Pork,” said Deputy Chief Minister And Minister of Modernization of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in a press statement yesterday.
“The farms in the PFA have undergone many quality audits including accreditation under myGAP and the abattoir was awarded the Veterinary Health Mark (VHM) by the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia which are internationally recognised,” Uggah continued.
Similarly, the AgriFood and Veterinary Authority (AVA) of Singapore conducts yearly audits on the PFA and has only now allowed the import of live pigs as the State is now able to meet their conditions of import of live pigs into Singapore. This is a testament of our good animal health status in particular our freedom from Food and Mouth Disease, African swine fever and Swine Vesicular Diseases. In fact, our pigs or other livestock can be exported to other parts of the world.
The pigs intended for export to Singapore were examined and were tested for several important zoonotic diseases by the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak. The manner of conveyance of the pigs from the PFA to the port and feeding on board the ship require adherence to the Standards Operating Procedure (SOP) adopted.
This consignment is accompanied by an Export License and Veterinary Health Certificate issued by the State Veterinary Authority and facilitated by the Kuching Port Authority at Sim Kheng Hong Port. Green Breeder currently has a standing pig population (SPP) of 38,000 heads and intends to export around 5,000 heads per month and eventually to 20,000 heads when the Anchor farm is developed at its full capacity of 100,000 SPP by 2020, the statement concluded.
