BEIRUT (Lebanon): An explosion was heard on Wednesday near the area where the funeral for Hezbollah members killed in yesterday’s pager explosion was being held in Dahieh, a neighbourhood in southern Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, Anadolu Agency reported.
Anadolu correspondents at the scene reported hearing the explosion, while eyewitnesses said the blast could have been caused by devices involved in yesterday’s explosion or other pagers.
No official statement has been made regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, Israel’s state television KAN claimed that new explosions had occurred in pagers in Lebanon. Local sources also suggested that radios may have exploded in the incident.
The pagers, wireless telecommunications devices, exploded Tuesday in several areas in Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, which local media suggested was an Israeli breach of the system.
The Israeli intelligence agency Mossad planted explosives in the batteries of pager devices that detonated Tuesday in Lebanon, killing 12 people and injuring around 2,750 others, including 200 in critical condition, according to Sky News Arabia channel.
The pager blasts came amid mounting border escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, which have been engaged in cross-border warfare since the start of Tel Aviv’s deadly war on the Gaza Strip, which has killed over 41,200 people, mostly women and children, following a Hamas incursion on Oct 7 last year. – BERNAMA-ANADOLU
