MINISTRY of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) is urged to expedite the work progress of upgrading the old logging roads that serve as the main access to various villages and longhouses in Murum constituency.
Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon stated this as those roads, specifically in Jelalong, Tubau, Ulu Sg. Belaga, Long Urun, Metalun, Tegulang, Sg. Linau and Sg. Asap are not safe to use and need to be upgraded immediately.
“I have submitted the application to the federal Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKWD) and they have given assurance to consider the application and will implement it by the end of this year.
“That being said, I would like to urge MIPD, Public Works Department (PWD) and other related agencies to do the follow-up action regarding the application to upgrade those roads with an estimated length of 374 kilometres,” he said.
He said this when debating on the motion of appreciation for the TYT address on the third day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday.
“I believe with this great relationship between the state and the federal governments, the project will be fully realised, which is needed by the people,” he added.
In the meantime, he would like to urge to the related ministry (Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications) to clarify the status of utility and basic facilities in the longhouses, specifically in Jelalong, Tubau, Long Bala, Long Koyan, Long Urun and Sg. Linau.
“This is truly important as treated water supply and electricity supply are the most crucial basic needs for the sustainability of our lives.
“I really hope the ministry will give proper clarification on the status of its implementation in solving the issue of the supply in Murum,” he added.
