DARO: Excessive weight load has been identified as the cause of a trailer transporting heavy machinery plunging into the river at Pangkalan Feri Sawai on Tuesday.

The incident happened at 10.30 am when the vehicle slipped off the edge of a ferry.

Daro police chief DSP Rahim Minios said that the ferry was unable to support the trailer’s heavy load, causing the ramp chain to snap.

“The trailer, driven by a 51-year-old man, was believed to be transporting a grader from Bintulu to Daro.

“Fortunately, the driver managed to exit the vehicle and save himself,” he said.

However, he lost his cash, bank cards, identification card and mobile phone in the incident.

The incident also went viral as two video clips were uploaded on social media.

In the clips, the driver was seen manoeuvring the trailer to board the ferry, but failed, and eventually, the trailer fell into the river.
