KUCHING: Former Lubok Antu MP Datuk William Nyalau Badak passed away at the age of 74 due to heart failure.
He breathed his last yesterday (Jan 20) at 4.27 pm at the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan.
Family members have announced the wake period will be held until Thursday (Jan 23) at No 253 Lorong 4A7, Jalan Setia Raja, Tabuan Laru.
Wake services are scheduled for Tuesday (Jan 21) and Wednesday (Jan 22) at 7 pm.
The encoffining ceremony will take place on Thursday at 8 am, followed by the funeral service at 8.30 am at the same address.
The cortege will then proceed to the 17th Mile Anglican Cemetery for burial.
Born on July 22, 1951, Nyalau served as a two-term MP from 2008 to 2018.
Before entering politics, he had a distinguished career as a district officer and a judge at the Adat Court.
Nyalau began his political journey with Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) but was dismissed by the party leadership in 2018.
Following his dismissal, he joined Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and contested in Batang Ai during the 2021 state election.
Despite his efforts, the seat was won by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh.
In November 2022, Nyalau left PSB and declared his allegiance to GPS, reaffirming his commitment to the state’s ruling coalition.
