Evening fire damages semi-detached homes

KUCHING: Two double-storey semi-detached houses at Taman Bigawa, Jalan Stapok here, were damaged in an evening fire yesterday (May 7).

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 5.17 pm incident as the residents managed to evacuate to safety.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Batu Lintang and Padungan stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, they found that the first house sustained 70 per cent damages to the upper floor while, the second house sustained five per cent damages.

The firefighters had to resort to using water from a nearby fire hydrant.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
