KUCHING: Esports is a platform that facilitates socialisation, team building, and innovation, and not just a mere game.

Speaking at the launch of the Senator Esports Cup 2023 Series 1 held at the Atrium of Boulevard Shopping Mall yesterday, Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim commended the Sarawak eSports Association (SESA) for their dedication to empowering youth and making a positive impact in the community.

“Esports has proven to be a unique and powerful tool in engaging our youth as it provides them with a platform to compete, to collaborate, and to showcase their skills, strategic thinking, acumen, creativity and passion,” he said.

Ahmad represents SESA to hand over the RM5,000 mock cheque to S.O.S. Kids representative.

Ibrahim also highlighted the rising popularity of eSports, citing its recognition as a competitive sport and its inclusion in major sporting events such as the Southeast Asian Games and SUKMA. He encouraged participants to use the Senator Esports Cup as an audition for the SUKMA team next year.

The Senator also announced a partnership with S.O.S. Kids, an organisation that provides assistance to critically ill children and their families, for a donation drive during the event. SESA donated RM5,000 to S.O.S. Kids as part of their support for the fundraising event.
