KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has announced that entry procedures into Sarawak using the EnterSarawak application must now also include a permit from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that the National Security Council (MKN) had decided that interstate movement from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Kuching and vice versa as well as from Kuching International Airport to Kota Kinabalu Airport would require a permit from PDRM before the journey starts.

“This decision was made by MKN in view of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in West Malaysia, Sabah, and Labuan,” he said at the SDMC Covid-19 update press conference today.

Uggah said, in view of the escalating Covid-19 situation especially in Sabah, SDMC had decided that movement through the Merapok and Sindumin borders would also be tightened.

“Security forces will increase the number of members there and tighten controls including at jalan tikus (illegal routes),” he said.

He said measures such as tighter controls, more frequent patrols, and an increase in the number of officers would be implemented at the Kalimantan border as well.

Uggah, who is also SDMC chairman, said that PDRM issued eight compound notices today – four in Kuching, three in Miri, and one in Kota Samarahan.

The Ministry of Local Government and Housing on the other hand issued 122 verbal, written, and seizure warnings in areas under the supervision of various local councils.

On Ops Benteng, he said a total of 756 vehicles were inspected at six roadblocks in five districts – two in Lundu and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu.
