MIRI: The state government will conduct a comprehensive study on quarters for civil servants, especially in the rural areas, towards providing suitable accommodation for them.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the study will look into the conditions of quarters presently available to ensure that civil servants are provided with a comfortable place to stay besides creating a conducive environment that prioritises their well-being and productivity.
He added that the State government is aware of the current condition of the government quarters, especially those in rural areas which needed to be addressed promptly.
“I have instructed the Sarawak State secretary to carry out the study and take steps to address the issues,” he said.
The Premier said this at the launch of Sarawak civil servant convention held at a leading hotel here. His text of speech was delivered by his Deputy, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Abang Johari highlighted the crucial importance of improving living quarters for civil servants as it is essential to prioritise their well-being and productivity.
“A conducive environment promotes focus and efficiency and is crucial in achieving successful outcomes,” he pointed out.
Also present were Minister for Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin and Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) president Dato’ Dr Adnan Mat.
More than 2,000 civil servants statewide attended the conference.
