SIBU: The state government is committed to bring free education for all Sarawak students.
Highlighting this, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said no other states in Malaysia are doing this.
“Only Sarawak government is brave enough to take this step to ensure every student of Sarawak will have the opportunity to education.
“Education is not a privilege but a necessity for a better life and of course a necessity for a prosperous Sarawak.
“So, our government is doing this not because we are trying to show to people that what we can do, but the right to education must be exercised if we were to strive to become a high income state,” he said in his speech at the Sekolah Menengah Kerajaan (SMK) Nangka’s Appreciation Ceremony held at its multi-purpose school hall on Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg here Saturday.
Tiang was represented by Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie who delivered his speech.
The Pelawan assemblyman stressed that the government is very committed to ensure that every student’s future is bright.
That, he stated, Sarawak will become a land of opportunity, especially for the young people who have lots of ideas, lots of potential and talents.
“If we do not tap into their talents and if we do not give them a platform or an opportunity to showcase their potentials, sooner or later they will leave the state.”And, of course, we cannot blame them because if we cannot provide them, they have to look somewhere else. So this is something we don’t want to see.
“We need our young people not only just to stay in Sarawak but also boost the economy of Sarawak through their talents, potentials and ideas,” he asserted.
With the commitment and dedication of the state government, Tiang truly believed that every student’s future is going to be very bright as long as they need to do now is to work hard and take the opportunity that is given to them.
So do not be afraid to have higher ambition, and big dreams, he advised, adding that the only thing that will stop them from achieving their dreams and their goals is themselves and their fear.
Earlier, SMK Nangka principal, Azlinda Mohd Nor who also spoke, said the ceremony is held every year to appreciate the efforts and hard work of students who are skilled in various fields, not only academics, but also co-curricular activities, personality and leadership.
