SADONG JAYA: The government has implemented a Craft Community Development Programme under the Skills Development and Enhancement Initiative in an effort at developing and empowering the craft community to be directly involved in craft enterprise to generate primary or ancillary incomes.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the implementation of the programme as part of Penjana’s initiative was intended to assist target groups namely youths, poor families, B40 group, Orang Asli community, Sarawak and Sabah ethnic groups, underprivileged and the unemployed.

“This programme has commenced with the Ba’Kelalan ECO Print Craft Community Development Programme here in Sarawak from September 15 to 18,” she said.

She was officiating at the Batang Sadong Craft Community Development Programme at Dewan Komuniti Sadong Jaya, here on Sunday.

Nancy said the programme focused on four main initiatives, namely product development, community development, marketing and promoting as well as integrated market communication.

She pointed out that the current digitalisation era demanded the use of online marketing tools to promote and market craft products.

“All online marketing platforms that have been provided by the government should be explored and utilised in marketing craft products to consumers in line with current technological developments and market demand.

“I would like to call on the craft community here to apply the skills they have learned and continue to produce quality craft products to generate income,” she added.

Gedong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo, Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, and Kraftangan Malaysia Sarawak director Azran Arip were also present at the event.
