KOTA SAMARAHAN: The theme for this year’s International Science, Technology And Engineering Expo (i-STEEX 2024) is accurate with the calls to strengthening the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among the younger generation in Sarawak.
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Professor Ir Dr Siti Noor Linda Taib said the theme for the expo is “Cutting Edge Research in Engineering, Built Environment and Technology”.
“Through i-STEEX, it encourages the young people in showcasing their creativity, talent and problem solving skills, which is very important towards the development of the county.
“We, here in UNIMAS hope to continue provide such a platform to the young generation in order to increase and strengthen their interest towards STEM education,” she said in her speech during the iSTEEX 2024 in DeTAR Putra, UNIMAS here today.
On another note, the i-STEEX 2024 was attended by 22 teams from various primary and secondary schools here, Kuching, Serian, Bau, Mukah and Sibu.
The participating teams, consisting of enthusiastic students, have showcased their ingenuity through poster presentations, highlighting innovative solutions and projects in various STEM disciplines.
Officiated by deputy permanent secretary of Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Anielia Siam, the programme particularly focused on talent development in Sarawak, aiming to fortify the capabilities of future generations through STEM activities.
Each team brings a unique perspective and innovative project to the forefront, contributing to the diverse array of STEM-based innovations on display.
The event provides an unparalleled opportunity for students to exchange ideas, collaborate with like-minded peers, and receive valuable feedback from experienced professionals in the field.
By fostering a spirit of innovation and critical thinking, the competition not only recognises outstanding achievement but also inspires.
