KUCHING: A 70-year-old woman died on the spot after she was struck by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) near a supermarket located along Jalan Teo Hui Seng here yesterday (Aug 30).
Kuching OCPD ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the accident involved a Perodua Aruz, which was exiting a junction, and a pedestrian who was crossing the road from the front of a supermarket in the area.
“The victim, identified as a local Chinese woman, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 6.15pm,” he said.
“The incident is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.
If found guilty, the driver could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to RM50,000.
He also urged those with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
