SRI AMAN: An elderly man died on the spot after his motorcycle was rear-ended by a pick-up truck along KM65, Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching on Wednesday.

Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said that the accident happened at around 5 pm when both vehicles were travelling in the same direction.

“Based on initial investigation and dashcam footage, both vehicles were heading straight from Sri Aman to Kuching when the motorcycle suddenly switched lanes from left to right, believed to be making a P-turn.

“Unable to brake in time due to close distance, the pick-up truck rear-ended the motorcycle and caused the victim to be thrown onto the road,” he said in a statement.

As a result, the victim identified as Sini Sunggi, 80, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics due to chest and limb injuries.

Mathew stated that the pick-up driver escaped unscathed in the accident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
