MIRI: Eight Indonesian women believed to be prostitutes were arrested by police during a raid, codenamed Ops Noda, at a budget hotel at Jalan Bendahara here last Tuesday.
Miri District Deputy Police chief, Superintendent Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said police also detained a local woman, aged 23, who is the caretaker of the premises.
He said 84 condoms and RM890 in cash were seized in the 7.30pm operation.
Stanley said all suspects were taken to Miri Central Police Station for further investigation.
“The case will be investigated under Section 372B of the Penal Code for prostitution and Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations, 1963 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, 1959/63 for violating social visit pass,” he said.
