BALINGIAN: Effective leadership plays a crucial role in raising awareness about drug abuse while fostering community development and well-being.

Balingian state assemblyman, Abdul Yakub Arbi, emphasised this during the KMKK (Community Leaders and Village Chiefs) Appointment and Extension Certificate Presentation Ceremony at the Balingian Sub-District Office yesterday.

He highlighted the responsibility of the KMKK not only in implementing government policies but also in guiding communities towards progress and ensuring a safer environment.

“Effective leadership helps shape a more progressive and harmonious community while also strengthening awareness of important social issues such as drug abuse,” he said.

As part of this initiative, the event also featured the distribution of bubur lambuk, organised by the Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (PEMADAM).

According to Abdul Yakub, programmes like this not only uphold the spirit of Ramadan but also serve as a platform to educate the public on the dangers of drug abuse.

“Public awareness of the dangers of drugs is crucial.

“We must work together to ensure that the younger generation does not fall into this trap for a brighter future,” he added.

In addition to the awareness campaign, Abdul Yakub also presented a grant of RM32,000 under the 2025 Minor Rural Project (MRP) to eight recipients within the Balingian state constituency.

He reminded the recipients to use the grant responsibly to benefit their respective communities.
