KUCHING: Cafe Cafe embraced the festive spirit of Christmas by hosting a heartwarming celebration with 30 children from Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah and the Salvation Army Kuching Children’s Care Centre, at the restaurant here on Sunday.
The event was filled with festive cheer and included a delicious lunch, complimentary haircuts, and Christmas gifts, creating lasting memories for the children.
Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development, Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, highlighted the importance of showing compassion during the festive season, particularly to disadvantaged groups such as children in care homes.
“It’s a season for giving, and during festive seasons such as Christmas, to show compassion, the feeling of love for them will make them feel that they are remembered and loved.
“If we don’t pay attention, or set a good example for them, when they grow up, their mindset and worldview will be different.
“We want these children to realise that there are people who love them,” she said.
Fatimah also commended the initiative by Gamor Barber Shop, which provided free haircuts for the children, particularly for the boys who attended the Christmas event.
“Haircuts can have a surprisingly positive impact, especially for boys, who often receive compliments on a fresh haircut, boosting their confidence.
“This simple act of kindness leaves a lasting impression, as seeing their well-groomed appearance in the days that follow makes them feel good, especially during the holiday season,” she added.
Meanwhile, Cafe Cafe owner, Olivia Ling, stressed the importance of giving back to the community, acknowledging the support her business has received.
“It is very important for us as a restaurant, and retail group to give back to the community that supports us,” she said.
Ling hoped this initiative could become an annual tradition for the restaurant.
